The Wellington Church is a beautiful neo-Classical building facing on to University Avenue and opposite Glasgow University's main building. The church is adjacent to the Hunterian Art Gallery, which houses a reconstruction of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife, Margaret Macdonald's Glasgow home.
The Wellington Church has an impressive Grecian portico with Corinthian columns and was completed in 1884 to a design by Thomas Lennox Watson for the United Presbyterian Church. It is called the Wellington Church because the congregation originally met in Wellington Street.
These day the building is occupied by the Church of Scotland, and part of their mission statement reads:
"We welcome into the life and worship of our congregation all people whatever their ethnic origin, gender, background, age, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability. We affirm our diversity and the dignity of each person."
During the weekend our sessions will be in the body of the church, with regular breaks for refreshments, which are served in the two adjoining church halls. We are very grateful to the Wellington Church for accommodating us. For More Information on the church Visit their website at http://wc.thischurch.org
